What more Oye?

Lighting is the heart of any photograph, but is especially critical in glamour and fashion portraiture. The right type, angle and amount of light can and does often make the definitive difference between a lukewarm picture and an outstanding photograph. This Workshop is designed to help you bridge that gap.

Illustrating simple and effective studio lighting examples for glamour, fashion and portrait images, the programme will demonstrate how to control artificial light to shape your model the winning way. Some of the specific topics covered will include:

  • Angle of lighting and its effects
  • Lighting with mirrors
  • Mood lighting with umbrellas
  • Shooting a "glamorous" magazine front cover
  • The artistic and technical aspects of fashion and glamour photography

All this will be supplemented with an insight into how to maximize the energy of the model before the camera with the right styling and direction of body language and an understanding of the importance of makeup and flash-lighting working together.

All lessons will be backed up with practical, applied learning with the aid of a readily willing subject - a professional model who has appeared in numerous television advertisements and competed for the coveted Miss India crown in one of the previous editions of the contest.

Among the crew will also be a professional make-up artist to help the model look her best, so your photographs can shine.

The Mazda Professional Photo Studio, a renowned photography facility in the Mahalaxmi area of Mumbai, is the perfect classroom and playground to try the various styles and concepts discussed by Darren, firsthand and in a highly illustrative way. The studio has ample space and all the amenities required to allow plenty of practical exercises to ensure that the learning is effective, involving and fun, virtually in your own backyard.

  • Your camera, lens(es) and accessories including an external flash, if you have one
  • Some pictures you have shot, on a portable memory device
  • A point-and-shoot or mirror-less camera if you do not have an SLR camera (although not ideal)

Amateur photographers interested in learning glamour photography and portraiture or neophyte-professional glamour photographers wanting to sharpen their skills. Participants must be at least 18 years of age but there is no upper limit, nor are there any other prerequisites or qualifications required apart from interest.

A basic understanding of Photography and familiarity with your camera are required. This is strictly not a workshop to learn the basics. If you are a complete beginner, please consider the Basics of Photography Workshop instead.

DSLR Camera users will benefit the most from the workshop but consumer digital camera users can attend the workshops as well.

Bringing a camera is not mandatory; it is prudent to have one to relate to the topics in question. Let us know if you don't have a camera and we can arrange one for you.
