Creative movement and dancetherapy is a natural, non-choreographed physical manifestation of the internal psychology of a person. In simple words, it is the rhythmic movement of the body to music, intended at bringing our mind and heart together. It works on the basic premise that our mind and body are connected and that one affects the other at a subconscious level. Creative movement therapy aims to strengthen this existing connection, thereby enhancing ourdormant emotions with the tool of music.
Dilshad Patel is a dancer, instructor, therapist and wellness consultant. She started learning the Bharat Natyam at the age of five and later trained and taught at ShiamakDavars Institute for the Performing Arts, one of Indias foremost dance academies. Over seven years, Dilshad trained herself and taught students specific dance styles. Dilshad also trained children and adults with disabilities, terminally-ill individuals and juvenile delinquents. She found this immensely challenging and learnt a lot from counselling those with special needs.Dilshad pursued her further education in the field of dance and movement therapy fromHarkness Dance Centre, New York.
